Responsibilities

 

Job Summary:

Develop, implement and manage NIPSCOs Distribution and Sub Transmission Line-Clearance, Electric and Gas Transmission Right of Way, Bare Ground Treatment, Landscape Maintenance and Tree Planting/Public Education Programs to ensure system reliability, regulatory compliance, public safety, cost effectiveness and customer satisfaction. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, monitor and report on maintenance programs and budgets for Electric Distribution and Sub Transmission, Electric and Gas Transmission that meet or exceed departmental objectives.
  • Monitor, analyze, and lead contractor performance and cost effectiveness.
  • Prepare and develop project specifications and bid documents.
  • Monitor, analyze, and lead contractor field crew evaluations and contract compliance audits.
  • Coordinate, create and perform internal and external training on departmental policies, programs and initiatives.
  • Develop, maintain and execute work schedules, work planning, and quality control processes.
  • Perform field supervision, inspection and coaching of work techniques and practices that reflect industry BMPs and internal specifications.
  • Provide timely investigation, response and resolution of customer complaints and claims.
  • Compile and submit necessary NERC / DOT / Compliance documents as needed.
  • Perform necessary compliance inspections including but not limited to: aerial, ground vehicle, walking and other necessary methods of transportation.
  • Cultivate and grow beneficial working relationships with other company departments and personal as well as with outside state and local interests to improve program operations.
  • Provide coordination and management of vegetation issues for construction projects.
  • Provide support and coordination to LOAs as required during emergency/storm outage restoration situations.
 

Qualifications

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Required

  • Ability to organize and manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Working knowledge of gas and electric distribution and transmission systems.
  • Proficient knowledge of arboricultural work practices, diagnostics, tree growth response, tree biology and plant physiology.
  • Working knowledge of tree pruning and herbicide application techniques.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective and confident public speaking skills.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Access.

Preferred

  • Self-starter with ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Confidence in leadership and decision-making.
  • Working knowledge of GIS and web based software applications.
  • Work experience in Electric and Gas Right of Way vegetation maintenance.

Education & Work Experience:

Required

  • Bachelors Degree in Forestry, Plant Biology, Horticulture, Natural Resource Management or related field.
  • 1-2 years professional experience.
  • Valid drivers license to operate company supplied vehicle.
  • ISA Certified Arborist (or ability to obtain credential within 6 months).
  • Indiana Pesticide License, Category 6 (or ability to obtain credential within 6 months).

Preferred

  • ISA Certified Arborist, Utility Specialist endorsement.
  • 3-5 years professional experience.
