Matt Goff officially transferred the UAA presidency to Josh Beaver at Trees & Utilities last month. Goff leaves a defining footprint following his term. He led the Board and staff in a collaborative effort toward a new goal: for UAA to become the “Voice of the UVM Industry”.

To achieve this, Goff lists the four key objectives of education, excellence, financial strength and collaboration, which were identified to help raise the organization’s standards and expand its influence in UVM.

“These strategic objectives directly support our commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation,” said Goff. “They’re not just tasks; they define how we operate. To be the authoritative voice in UVM, we must fully embrace sustainable practices and conservation.

“By weaving these principles into all we do, we boost operational and cost efficiency, enhance public perception, foster regulatory stability, and secure our industry’s long-term, indispensable value to society. It’s about being smart, responsible, and respected.”

Goff adds that UAA volunteers are passionate. He credits them with expanding the association’s influence and advancing its mission. Making a difference and a commitment to sustainability and social responsibility are what the newer generations want for their careers.

“To attract and keep the sharpest, most dedicated minds, the ROW industry must showcase its environmental leadership and forward-thinking approach,” Goff maintains. “A strong, clear voice highlighting this commitment not only boosts appeal but ensures a vibrant, skilled workforce for years to come.”
