Harnessing AI to Predict Tree Failures and Fortify Power Grids
West Virginia University, with funding from the TREE Fund’s Utility Arborist Research Fund, is spearheading a crucial study to predict tree failures along utility distribution corridors.
- By leveraging big data, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, the research hopes to identify regional failure patterns, enabling utilities to proactively prioritize high-risk trees.
- Utilities and consulting firms across North America are encouraged to contribute tree outage reports to this effort. Data confidentiality will be strictly honored, with NDAs available as needed.
- Please contact Dr. Greg Dahle or Kelly Herzog Williams to participate and support research that will enhance grid resilience and reduce tree-related outages.
