Record Attendance and Strengthened Partnerships at Trees & Utilities
Knoxville, Tennessee, proved to be a terrific backdrop for this year’s Trees & Utilities Conference, September 9 – 11. Here is a look at the numbers:
- 1,523 attendees is a new record
- 48 states and Washington, D.C.
- Nine countries including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Guatemala, New Zealand, Uganda, United Kingdom and U.S.
- Four continents Africa, Europe, North America and Oceania
- Fun fact: 219 gallons of coffee consumed
“Our market research shows the industry will continue growing,” adds Samantha Wilson, UAA Partnership Coordinator. “The Board’s new vision (to be the voice of the UVM industry) will energize and inspire our professionals, specifically the next generation. Best practices and influence create communities that are more connected, safer, and sustainable, so the more excited people will be to jump on our ship.”
The conference was also a pivotal moment for maintaining key industry relationships, especially investments in research.
The UAA and the TREE Fund signed an extension to permanently fund the Utility Arborist Research Fund Grant Program (UARF). This critical partnership ensures ongoing financial support for professionals, with annual grants of up to $50,000 available to support vital research. Over the last 15 years, UARF has already awarded more than $700,000 in grants.
“There is great energy in the Trees & Utilities space,” says Dennis Fallon, UAA Executive Director. “This partnership and the agreement extension demonstrate an increased spirit of collaboration among associations. We want to be at the forefront of establishing industry norms together, and we are the experts to make it happen.”
New MOU Ensures Consistent Arborist Safety Standards
In a significant collaborative effort to enhance arborist safety, the UAA formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) concerning the Electrical Hazards Awareness Program (EHAP). This agreement, which focuses on radio frequency awareness, ensures that arborists industry-wide will receive consistent language used in training and guidance. Find out more about EHAP and how to enroll.
