This month, we are taking a closer look at the expertise and perspective behind our financial operations. Felicia Dunlap shares what drew her to UAA, how her work as Financial Treasurer directly supports members, and her commitment to strengthening the organization for years to come.

Welcome Felicia! Tell us what drew you to this new role at UAA, and how has your background prepared you?

“I’ve spent more than 25 years in nonprofit finance, and at this stage in my life I was looking for part-time work with flexibility. A former college classmate, UAA Events Coordinator Crystal Arp, encouraged me to apply. Crystal spoke highly of the organization, and that really stood out. Professionally, I have an undergraduate degree in accounting and an MBA, along with experience across nonprofits of varying sizes. I’ve built a career around improving systems and processes, and I was excited by the opportunity to bring that mindset to a newly created role at UAA.”

What excites you most about contributing to UAA’s mission?

“It starts with leadership. Dennis is an exceptional leader, and the team is incredibly passionate about what they do. There’s a strong sense of purpose across the organization from utilities to forestry and that energy is contagious. It makes it easy to feel connected to the mission and motivated to contribute.”

What has been the most rewarding part of your job so far?

“Honestly, feeling useful. I enjoy helping people, and this role allows me to support the team in ways that make their jobs easier and more effective. It takes time to settle into a new position, but I’ve reached a point where I can contribute meaningfully and help others succeed—and that’s very rewarding.”

What key projects or goals are you focused on in your first year?

“One major project has been syncing our membership and financial systems, which were previously managed through a manual process. That integration will save time and improve accuracy. We’ve also introduced a more collaborative budgeting process to increase team involvement and accountability. Looking ahead, I’ll be leading my first budget cycle at UAA, preparing for the audit, and exploring ways to generate more passive income from our financial resources.”

Any final thoughts you’d like to share?

“Our focus is always on the members. As a team, we consistently ask how we can better serve them, raise awareness, and grow the community. My role is to support that mission behind the scenes—building strong financial processes that help UAA continue to succeed and provide value.”
